DM does not absorb or emit light. All astrophysical evidence for DM is solely based on gravitational effects like deflection of light by gravitational lensing and gravitational potential of galaxy clusters, which cannot be accounted for by just the observed luminous matter. So, we include more, new matter (simplest option xD). No known particle can play the role of DM (except neutrinos a little bit).
